Life on the Line: exploring edgelands in a shifting landscape
£15.00
Life on the line is a photobook inspired by a map. The map shows the area of land, near my home in Southwold, that will be inundated in the event of the sea defences failing.
The town, like nearby settlements, is built on elevated land. The flood zone is, for the most part, marsh and low-lying pasture drained in previous centuries.
Life on the line examines the places and activities that occur where these two zones meet. This is land that is blighted by the prospect of a future flood.
It is a place of insubstantial buildings. Land is used for ephemeral activities
.
The images for this project have been shot along the line that marks the edge of the flood zone.
